Theory-crafting 101: Year of the Black Rainbow

Hey everyone!

It’s Tuesday, which means it’s time for another edition of “Theory-crafting 101”!

This week we will be taking a look at Black Conflict Cooler. While not on the same level as Blue Resolute Tao, this is a list that I have been tinkering with in my spare time. I think Cooler lends a lot to the Style, as Black has a difficult time surviving long enough to really benefit from its control aspects. Adding Cooler to the Style gives it that extra burst of life I feel it really needs, and gives the Style some hard-hitting built-in personality attacks.

Let’s take a look:

What Are We Trying to Accomplish?

This deck is a pretty straight-forward Survival/MPPV List. While not necessarily the fanciest list we have done on the blog to date, it is a pretty enjoyable list to play. This list blends an interesting amount of Control, Aggression, Protection and Anger, leaving your opponent off-balance and unsure what to expect next.

The block count for the list may seem rather high, but Black Corruption will likely always been thrown away to your Mastery or Level 1 power early in the game, so it’s hard to really consider it an actual “Block”. However, having the ability to stop an energy attack and make a 3 anger swing (+1 for you, -2 for them) does feel pretty good when you have to use it that way.

Another great feeling with the deck is using Black Combo in conjunction with your Mastery for a +3 anger swing for you. Having done this several times in this list, I am reminded why Command is now Banish to gain anger instead of shuffle to gain anger. But with all the shenanigans going on in Orange, maybe we can see an amendment to Black Command again? Likely not, but a man can dream!

The System Is Down…?

Thanks for checking out this week’s Theory-crafting 101 article.

Normally this would be where you would see the poll for next week’s article, however due to some unfortunate circumstances I will actually be out of town for the majority of next week, and would be unable to check the poll and research accordingly.

Fear not, however, as I will be spending my time this week writing up the appropriate amount of articles for wen I am away and auto updating them on the appropriate days. Next week’s Theory-crafting 101 will be on our runner up for this week, Red Ascension Krillin! Because of this change, I will be adding 3rd and 4th place to the poll to be generated with next week’s article.

I will still try my best to let people know that the articles have posted properly, but if you find my absence on Retro disturbing, know that it is for a good reason and I thank you in advance for your understanding. You guys make writing these articles worthwhile, so please stay tuned!

Until next time, FanZ Warriors!
