Theory-crafting 101: Bad Never Looked So Good!

Hey everyone!

First, I want to thank everyone for having patience with me over the last week. Trust me when I say that I have had a pretty rough week+, but I didn’t want to let the blog get to out of order. So even though this will be going up slightly later than normal, I hope you guys still enjoy the list!

With housekeeping out of the way, let’s get into a more exciting conversation. That being, today’s article! Based on our poll from last week, today we well be discussing an interesting deck design: Red Ruthless A17!

As with most of our TC101 lists, this deck has yet to be tested, and is meant to excite everyone into exploring the card pool. Sifting through the different cards to find the different interactions and combinations hidden below the surface of Orange’s blinding glow.

So let’s take a look to see what everyone’s favorite Android Bad Boy has in store for us today!

What Are We Trying to Accomplish?

So this list may seem straight forward at first, but there is a bit of nuance to it. So you may notice that there are a decent amount of anger cards in the deck. However, we aren’t necessarily trying to level. Because A17’s new level helps deter our opponent’s from drawing extra cards, we don’t really want to leave this level unless we are playing a deck that plays a lot of Allies (as our level 2 can recur our Vans for us from the Banished Zone).

So then what’s with all the anger? Well, as I often like to tinker with, Red has a large selection of “Turn your Anger into a Resource” cards. These cards add some much needed spice to a Style that can sometimes feel really straight forward.

With this unlocked resource, we open up the ability to create some interesting board states. A bizarre little combo is Red Despair Drill and Red Maneuvering Drill, allowing us to double dip and add additional Life Cards and Stages to our attacks; giving us Life Cards for our Anger level when we perform the attack, then granting us Stages for any anger we may lose with the same attack. And thanks to our Mastery and Android Attack Drill, suddenly all of our Styled Attacks have the potential to do large amounts of mixed damage, despite being a completely physical based deck!

The Drill package in the deck allows us to try to compensate for the fact we are not trying to leave our 1st level, and since Red has a great Drill tutor and recursion package, we should be able to take full advantage of these cards throughout the game.

Red Ruthless Mastery feels like a natural fit for A17. With his ability to pressure your opponent’s stages, remove allies to reduce any damage soaking, and his built-in anger hate on his new level, your opponent will likely feel behind the 8-ball right out of the gate. While we aren’t playing cards like I’ll Dig Your Grave or Red Aerial Assault, Red Cover Drill will make sure that our opponent won’t get any funny ideas about using Endurance from our attacks, meaning that the anger hate is even stronger with this list!

The Power Is Yours!

Thanks for checking out the list for today! I hope you all give it a try and let me know what you think of it (whenever OCTGN decides to stop being so fickle ;P ).

Don’t forget to vote for your favorite choice in the poll below. You just might see it as our next TC101 article!

Until next time, FanZ Warriors!
